Emily Caffrey has 10 years of experience in aquatic conservation science. She joins our team as the SOPS Platform Manager, overseeing the Solar Oyster Production System (SOPS) and assessing its operations and performance. Emily also assists with the UMBC Interdisciplinary Consortium for Applied Research in the Environment (ICARE) Program research performed on the SOPS as well as data collection, educational outreach, and program administration.
Prior to joining Solar Oysters, Emily served as a Dive Safety Officer for 6 years between the National Aquarium in Baltimore and the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. In these roles, she oversaw all scuba diving operations inclusive of training and maintenance of diving equipment and exhibits. In North Carolina, she was part of a conservation science dive team focusing on invasive lionfish mitigation from Cape Hatteras shipwrecks and behavior of Sand Tiger sharks. Emily’s passion for conservation-based projects and hands-on experience with aquatic species has guided her into her current role at Solar Oysters. Emily holds a Master of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from University of Florida and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Salisbury University. She enjoys scuba diving, sea kayaking, and creating aquatic-inspired artwork. |
